West Bridgford Colts has an ethos of opportunity for all regardless of ability or circumstances and this underpins all we do.
The history of west bridgford Colts
West Bridgford Colts was formed in 1990 by parents who wanted to give their child the opportunity to play football. Starting as one team playing on Alford Rd in West Bridgford, these small beginnings grew to WBC being the largest grassroots football Club in the UK.
As soon as the first team was formed, more young people joined and we were given the opportunity to share a ground with 2 cricket clubs near ‘The Chateau’ on Wilford Rd, West Bridgford.
Sherwood Cricket Club (later amalgamating with Gedling cricket club was formed in 1925 with a home ground in Sherwood for 50 years and then sharing a ground with Mellish Rugby Club in Mapperly. Housing developments meant they moved to a new ground near Wiford Toll Bridge and then in 1993 moved to The Chateau to share the ground with West Bridgford Colts & Wilsons Cricket Club.
The building of Beckett & Emmanuel Schools meant the Clubs had to once again move to a new ground. Since 2006, Regatta Way Sports Ground in Gamston has been the home ground of West Bridgford Colts and Gedling & Sherwood Cricket Club.
West Bridgford Colts has, since its formation in 1990 grown every year and in 2023 provided 1600 young people, in 137 teams, the opportunity to play football in a safe and inclusive environment. The bedrock of the Clubs success is its volunteer coach parents who coach & run the teams.
We have a partnership with Score FC soccer school who introduce 5 & 6 year old children to football, many of whom go all the way through the Club to our adult section.
West Bridgford Colts has an ethos of opportunity for all regardless of ability or circumstances and this underpins all we do. Past players have gone on to play internationally and to captain in the Premier League but equally important are the thousands of children and adults who have developed a lifelong love of the beautiful game.
